Bible Verses About Faith

Faith in the Bible is not wishful thinking or a leap in the dark. It is confidence placed in a God who has shown Himself trustworthy, a settled trust in what He has said even before we can see it. Faith always has an object, and in Scripture that object is God Himself.
The verses below describe where faith comes from, how it grows, and what it looks like in practice. They show that faith is given rather than manufactured, that it comes by hearing God's word, and that real trust always works its way out into how we live.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
The Bible's nearest thing to a definition: faith gives substance to what we hope for and certainty about what we cannot yet see.
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Pleasing God begins with believing two things: that He is, and that He rewards those who seek Him.
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Faith is not summoned out of thin air; it comes by hearing, and what we hear is the word of Christ.
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
A faith that never moves the hands or feet is no living faith at all. Genuine trust shows up in action.
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Jesus measures faith by its object, not its size. Even mustard-seed faith matters because of the God it rests on.

The Christian life is lived on the basis of what God has said, not only what the eyes can confirm.
And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
Jesus calls for bold, expectant prayer, the kind of asking that takes God at His word.
For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Faith is not just believing facts about Christ but living by Him, the life you now live lived by trust in the Son of God.
For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
The gospel reveals a righteousness received by faith from start to finish: the just shall live by faith.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Even the faith that saves is a gift, so salvation is grace through and through and leaves no room for boasting.
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Living it out
If faith comes by hearing God's word, then the way to grow it is not to strain harder but to keep returning to Scripture, where God speaks and trust is fed. Feed your faith on what He has actually promised.
And because real faith acts, ask where trust needs to become a step this week: an obedience delayed, a fear handed over, a prayer prayed as though God truly hears.
