Verses about walking humbly before God and putting others first.
Humility in the Bible is not thinking poorly of yourself; it is thinking of yourself rightly before God and putting others ahead of your own interests. It is the opposite of pride, and Scripture says God gives grace to the humble while resisting the proud.
These verses show humility's shape and its reward. They point to Jesus as the pattern and promise that the way down, in God's economy, is the way up.
Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
Do nothing from selfish ambition; count others more significant and look to their interests.
Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
Humble yourself before the Lord, and He will lift you up; the lowering is ours, the lifting is His.

Humility is part of the believer's wardrobe, worn with compassion, kindness, and patience.
And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
When pride comes, disgrace follows, but with humility comes wisdom.

The same principle Jesus taught at the table: take the low place and let God do the lifting.
For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but with sober judgment.
Living it out
Humility grows in small, concrete choices: listening before speaking, serving without being noticed, counting someone else's interests as worth your attention today.
Resist the urge to promote yourself. James says humble yourself and let God lift you up; the way down is the way up in His kingdom, so leave the exalting to Him.
