Bible Verses About Joy
Verses about finding joy in the Lord, rejoicing always, and lasting happiness.
Joy in the Bible is deeper and sturdier than happiness. Happiness depends on what is happening; joy depends on God, so it can stand even in sorrow. It is found in His presence rather than in our circumstances, which is why Scripture can command it.
These verses locate joy in the Lord, show that it is fruit the Spirit grows, and insist that it can survive grief and trial without pretending the pain away.
Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.
The joy of the Lord is your strength; joy is not a luxury but a source of resilience.
Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Joy is fruit of the Spirit, grown by God rather than worked up by us.

Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
Believers love and trust a Saviour they have not seen, and rejoice with joy inexpressible.
Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
Living it out
Because joy is found in God, the way to it is not to chase better circumstances but to draw near to Him, the fountain of joy. Practise His presence in prayer and praise even when feelings lag.
And let joy and sorrow sit together honestly. Like Habakkuk, you can grieve the failed harvest and still rejoice in the God of your salvation; joy does not require pretending.
